Evenepoel's most trusted lieutenant followed his leader from Soudal Quick-Step to Red Bull on a three-year deal, part of a package that also brought over the Belgian's sports director, soigneur and mechanic. A powerful time triallist and diesel engine, the 35-year-old Italian has spent years pacing Evenepoel through crosswinds and up long climbs. His job in July: keep Remco safe and deliver him to the foot of the mountains with watts to spare.
