Marc Reef is part of Visma's modern coaching generation: less famous than the riders, but central to the system that turns preparation into race control. In 2026 the team announced that Reef would become Head of Racing from September 1, succeeding Grischa Niermann after a transition period.
Before that promotion takes effect, Reef's Tour role is already significant. Visma said he had recently led the Giro sporting operation and would lead sporting operations during the upcoming Tour de France. That makes him one of the most important non-riders in the 2026 yellow-jersey fight.
His challenge is enormous: manage Vingegaard's Tour bid, handle a roster reshaped by injuries and late changes, and do it while the team's sporting hierarchy is visibly changing. If Visma looks calm in July, Reef will be one reason why.
